About the SCSNO

The Sport & Culture Society of the North Okanagan would like to acknowledge that the geographical scope of our society is within the ancestral, traditional, and unceded territory of the Syilx Nation and the Secwepemc Nation, and that many of their descendants still live here.

The Sport & Culture Society of the North Okanagan (SCSNO) was born out of the passion and commitment of a group of volunteers who have a vision to help grow and support our diverse sport & culture community. Board members of the SCSNO have set out their mission and values to give direction and context to the society.

Our Mission

Our objective is to bring together partners of all sports and culture organizations, including tourism, stakeholders, levels of government, our community and volunteers to enhance sport, culture and recreation in the North Okanagan.

We will strive to provide leadership for the development of infrastructure and hosting of events for the betterment of our community.

These actions will help enhance our strong and vibrant community while promoting sport and culture for a successful future in our region for generations to come.

Our Vision

The SCSNO has three key stakeholders that we keep front of mind when defining our deliverables.  The below lists who our stakeholders are and how the SCSNO aims to add value.

  • 1. Tourism Operator Stakeholders:

    • Event Attraction — We will assist in the bringing of events that will benefit the Tourism operators in our region
    • Area Promotion – we will look to attend tradeshows and events to promote our region
  • 2. Social Profit Organizations in Sport and Culture:

We aim to provide a few areas of support:

    • Hosting support – assist in elevating or bringing in any events to our area
    • Collaboration – bring groups together to work on mutually beneficial initiatives
    • Volunteers – we aim to provide a volunteer database to organizations hosting events in our region
  • 3. North Okanagan Residents:

    We aim to provide:

    • Central Volunteer Registry – a dedicated website where residents can register to volunteer and support local events
    • Group Locator – a place to search for Sport and Culture groups within our region
